A HIGHER STANDARD

Here's Billy!      My name is Billy Bludgus, and I am running for the Student Government presidency on the ticket known as "A Higher Standard."  After serving in the SG Senate, I have spent the past year serving as our Executive Chief of Staff of Student Government, and I believe this experience will prove to be invaluable, if elected.  I have a very extensive knowledge of SG and the University of Miami.  I have learned how things work here at UM, what things are possible, and how to accomplish them.  I have also had the opportunity to build very strong ties with administrators, whose cooperation will only enhance the efficiency of student government.  More importantly I feel I can represent the students and address their wants and needs better than any other candidate.  The role of Student Government is to serve the students, and I would love to take on this role to the highest degree by serving as your president.

Amy Landau is running for the Treasurer position.  As a current member of SAFAC and the University Affairs Committee of the SG Cabinet, she brings both budgeting skills and student government experience to our ticket.  As a vice-president of Panhellenic and vice-chair of LINK in the Volunteer Services Center, she represents several aspects of campus life. I am most confident she will bring a new and most proactive dynamic to SG.

Along with vice presidential candidate, Ben Everard, our platform includes 12 items.  We are adamant about increasing recycling on campus and ensuring the opening of a Starbucks in the library.  We will focus on issues faced daily by students by ensuring the increase of laundry facilities on campus, implementing the use of credit cards in the food court, realigning parking spaces to meet Coral Gables standards, and providing free towels at the Wellness Center.  We are targeting academic issues by improving advising through department specific FEX classes, peer advising, and by creating stability and consistency within the Honors Program.  We also have broader objectives such as joining a state-wide campaign with other Florida schools to ensure the continuation of the Bright Futures Scholarship and FRAG, and joining a national campaign with other universities across the nation to lobby publishing companies for the reduction of textbook prices.
